Digital proof-sheet
At the beginning of the year 2006 we installed successfully into the process complete certified digital proof-sheet GMG DotProof including sonde and software for evaluation coloured conformity with target printing process and we ranked among 20 companies in the Czech Republic which are in possession of this technology.
Proof-sheet is able to simulate printing dot, overprint, spot colours, material colour and a colourfullness of different printing processes. Digital proof-sheet is printed on Epson Stylus 4000 and is used for pre-press and authorization of colour scheme by the customer (See Noviny pro grafický průmysl, no. 4, page 7 from 23. 2. 2006).
Problematic Aspects of Graphical Designs – Recommendations for Customers
File Formats
- bitmaps: TIFF, EPS, PSD, BMP
- vector graphics: EPS, AI, CDR
- if possible, in the same program used for creation purposes and always only in vector format (no bitmaps!), CDR (Corel), EPS (Illustrator) or QXD (Quark); all used letters (characters) must be converted to curves or particular fonts must be supplied (both versions are preferred); QXD files must always be supplied together with fonts!
- each graphical design should be accompanied by a printed overview identifying the file’s content
- if your graphical design combines bitmaps and vector graphics, it is necessary to supply bitmaps separately (minimum resolution: 300dpi, standard resolution: 400dpi; these parameters must be observed and a lower resolution may not be converted to our required resolution)
- PDF or JPG documents may be supplied only together with all relevant source files and for graphical control purposes only
- all QXD assembled files must be supplied together with all relevant source files and all fonts used in such files
- acceptable compression formats: WIN-ZIP, ARJ, RAR
Positioning in a Cut-Out
- if supplying your own designs, you should always take into account that modifications may be required (frames, text offset, etc.) in order to position them within a cut-out
- label frames must have sufficient thickness – at least 1.5mm (because of the accuracy of cutting); the same applies to white rims
- checking (verification) that all graphical elements (texts, images) are placed in a sufficient distance from the edge – at least 1.5 mm
Line Thickness
- single colour – min. 0.15 mm
- more colours – depending on their amount and shades and on the materials used
Text Sizes
- positive – single colour – min. 3 points (depending on the chosen font)
- multicoloured – see the lines (number of colours, types of colours, font types)
- negative – single colour – min. 4 points (depending on the chosen material and font)
- multicoloured – see positive
- the size of each text must be assessed individually and should be consulted with the production manager
EAN Code
- assessment of dimensions, colours, position and suitable background; the DTP department and Flexographic printing technologist have facilities establishing the right printing contrast EAN 13 and 8 bar codes (hereinafter only EAN)
- each supplied EAN code must be replaced by an EAN created by our DTP department (minimum size: 85%)
- if other types of codes are to be printed, it is necessary to consult their harmonisation (in terms of standardisation) with our EAN system coordinator.
